Maria “Gina” Natera-Armenta and her ultra running partner became separated and then lost after a routine run. Natera-Armenta said that she thought of her husband and favorite TV shows in order to stay alert and prepared to be rescued. After eating a $89 steak dinner at Geoffrey’s Restaurant in Malibu, Mitrice Richardson tried to leave without paying. Malibu police arrested the 24-year old Cal State Fullerton graduate and then released her around 1:30am on her own recognizance. Richardson has been missing ever since. Police and family members are still looking for her and an argument has begun about whether Richardson should have been allowed to leave the police station. WHOLE STORY
According to school officials, Laguna Hills High School began to translate their newsletter, “Hawk Happenings,” as a way to encourage parent involvement in their children’s education. They also site a California state education policy that if a school has more than 15% of families from a single language group, they are required to provide translation for the parents in that language. Following their investigation, the California Highway patrol has recommended a charge of manslaughter for the La Habra policewoman involved in fatal accident on the way to an emergency call. Questions remain as to whether her lights and siren were on at the time of the incident. WHOLE STORY
A state appeals court heard arguments regarding the legality of banning Medical Marijuana dispensaries in Orange County. Marijuana is an illegal substance under Federal Law but California Law has been passed to allow it’s use for medical use. Proponents of the ban do not want Marijuana being sold in their neighborhoods, opponents say legal dispensaries are better than the black market. WHOLE STORY
