The science journal, Nature, has published a paper reporting that the San Andreas fault has experienced stress from the 2004 earthquake that ravaged Indonesia.  The paper and subsequent interview with author show how quakes from both near and far can cause shifts in the fault which may or may not cause new quakes.  WHOLE STORY

Laguna Beach’s city council will make a plan to help growing homeless population in the area.  The challenge is finding somewhere other than public parks and beaches for people to sleep since a law has been passed to allow it until a reasonable substitute is found. WHOLE STORY

St. James Anglican church in Newport Beach left the Episcopalian denomination over the installation of a gay bishop.  The congregation would like to keep the church building that they built and the property they have maintained.  However, technically, the Episcopal Church owns the land and deed.  After several local and national appeals, the US Supreme court has now denied hearing of the case.  St. James promises further appeals.  WHOLE STORY

TruVolume, the latest sound technology equipment from Santa Ana based, SRS labs promises to regulate the sound of television commercials that blast into living rooms far above the volume of the program that is playing.  The TruVolume device is updated from earlier versions of this technology to regulate commercial blasts without affecting loud explosions or action sequences which are meant to be loud.  WHOLE STORY

ZotWheels will allow students and faculty at University of California, Irvine to borrow and return bikes on campus with a swipe of their identification cards.  The new bike-sharing transportation system should cut down on traffic and contribute to the on-going effort of California Universities to be environmentally friendly.  WHOLE STORY

The Anaheim Union School District is hosting it’s first annual College Fair at the Anaheim Convention Center on October 14, 2009.  Students from all Anaheim high schools are encouraged to attend.  There will be shuttles from all schools available to bring students to the convention center.  Break-out sessions will focus on getting through high school to college, the basics of college, how to pay, tests to take to get in and writing a personal essay.  MORE INFORMATION
