20,000 acres of Irvine Co. land has been offered to Orange County, as a gift. The land must be kept undeveloped as park and wildlife sanctuary land. Some environmentalists are speaking out, saying the county does not have the funds to maintain such a parcel. WHOLE STORY

A recent finding by the state Employment Development Department shows an 83% uptick in people looking for full-time work and having to settle only for part-time. In an effort to get young people interested in math and science, the Discovery Science Center sponsored a “pumpkin launch” in Fullerton. One group created a “pumpkin lobber” cannon to propel pumpkins through plywood targets 50 yards away.
