Huntington Beach high schools will begin phasing out their Valedictorian/Salutatorian programs where only the two top students in their schools are honored. Instead, every student with a 4.0 or higher will be “magna cum laude” and with a 4.4 or higher, “summa cum laude.” The district hopes this program will be more inclusive and help discourage students from taking AP classes solely for the purpose of being number 1. Retired Lt. Stephen Robert Deck was found guilty of attempted lewd acts on a child after being caught in a sting. Deck contacted and tried to meet with a 13-year old girl, who was, in reality, an undercover policewoman. Evidence showed Deck had plans to engage the under aged girl in sexual activity. WHOLE STORY
GardenWalk, the Anaheim mall across from Disneyland, has defaulted on its mortgage and may be headed for bankruptcy. The 440,000-square-foot mall hopes to become solvent in the next year, if they are able to renegotiate their loans and make a go of it. WHOLE STORY
The Orange County Rescue Mission in Tustin reports feeding 71,091 meals a month this year. This is double the amount of meals as last year. Jim Palmer, president of the OCRM reminds folks that even after the holiday spirit has subsided, folks are still hungry, still need meals and the non-profits will still need donations. WHOLE STORY

The mission of the Orange County Rescue Mission is to provide love to the needy in the Orange County community through the provision of assistance in the areas of guidance, counseling, education, job training, shelter, food, clothing, health care and independent living communities. Urgently needed items include perishable and nonperishable food, hygiene products, clothing, laundry detergent and toys, as well as diapers, baby wipes and laundry detergent. Gift cards for grocery stores are also accepted. Donations can be delivered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the Village of Hope warehouse, which is located at 1 Hope Drive in Tustin.
