After being cleared of criminal wrongdoing in a stock backdating case, Henry Samueli has returned to Broadcom, the company he founded, as senior vice president and chief technical officer.  Even though Samueli had pleaded guilty to making false statements to federal regulators, the judge set aside the plea and dismissed the case.  WHOLE STORY

The Angels have lost Rory Markas, a longtime voice of their team.  Markas has been a staple in Los Angeles sports as announcer for the LA Clippers, USC basketball and the Los Angeles Angels, as well as freelance news reporter in the Southland.  Cause of Mr. Markas’ death is still under investigation. With an Idaho postmark, the words, “Black Death” and a mysterious powder, someone is attempting to scare some UC Irvine employees through the mail.  Another two women have received a letter bringing the number to four.  The letters have so far been sent to people working in the sciences.  No illness or injuries have been reported.  WHOLE STORY

Two men, reportedly traveling to the airport in a hurry, were critically injured when an oncoming train in Placentia hit their BMW.  The men were transported to UC Irvine in critical condition. Officers believe the men tried to beat the train.  WHOLE STORY
