Jon Apothaker began his day hanging with his buddy on Balboa Pier hoping for a little shark steak for dinner.  His day ended with a whale of a tale to share and the possibility of a steep fine and jail time.  Apothaker threw out his steel fishing line with a little fresh mackerel and brought in a giant, protected black sea bass.  Oops.  WHOLE STORY

Glen Bell, known for spicing up early fast food with some fresh mex, died at home in Rancho Santa Fe.  He was 86.  From Bell’s work, experimentation and innovation came the drive-through, Taco Bell and also Del Taco (founded by a business partner of Bell’s).  WHOLE STORY

Kristen Howerton felt the earth shake violently, grabbed her 8-month old daughter Karis and ran outside to be reunited with Kembert – her soon–to-be adopted son.  Howerton was spending three days in Haiti at the orphanage where her son Kembert lives when the earthquake it.  Now home, she is trying to expedite the process to bring him home. A team from Mission Viejo Christian Church that was working with their partner Orphanage in Port Au Prince has returned home bringing stories of both desperation and miracles.  Some hope to return soon.  WHOLE STORY

Kids all over Irvine participated in a “LemonAID” program sponsored by the local TEAM KIDS organization.   Kids were encouraged to set-up a stand in their neighborhood and invited to bring the proceeds to be collectively counted at City Hall, today.  The closing ceremony celebrating all the hard work and fundraising will be this afternoon at 5:00pm. Christ Our Redeemer AME Church Pastor

Rev. Mark E. Whitlock has spent his life working with and helping people through the church.  He is the pastor of Christ Our Redeemer AME Church in Irvine and also spends hundreds of hours as a principal member of several local non-profit organizations.  Rev. Whitlock is working on a book about Faith-based community development and loves hanging out with his wife of twenty-three years and three sons.
