After a 27% drop in revenue from 2008-2009, Garden Grove’s Crystal Cathedral mega church had to make some deep cuts. The church will be laying off workers, selling property and plans to pull its “Hour of Power” broadcast form eight markets. The new budget does not have room for the “Glory of Easter” pageant that reenacts the life and death of Jesus Christ. Officials from the church say the recent family feud that left founder Rev. Robert H. Schuller’s son Rev. Robert A. Schuller without a job has not affected the budget. WHOLE STORY
Police are asking people with rented storage in Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Costa Mesa and Garden Grove to take inventory of their units. An investigation uncovering truckloads of stolen goods opened a deeper look at several local storage facilities where thieves apparently rented units then broke locks on surrounding storage, stole items and put them in their own. Sven Johnston thought LinkedIn members from Orange County should not be identified from the “greater Los Angeles” area. So, he created a petition group called, “We are Orange County.” The group has grown to close to 3,700 people hoping to encourage a separate identity from Los Angeles. Since his inception as CEO, Bill Shumard, a resident of Brea, has grown the number of athletes participating by 30%. During the first three years of Shumard’s tenure, revenues increased from $6 million to $8 million annually as SOSC moved to grow and strengthen its revenue streams including a strong emphasis on major and planned gifts, and Internet fundraising. To continue SOSC’s growth in a challenging economic time, Bill and the SOSC team has launched a $2.2M Southern California Dream House Raffle or a cash prize of $1.5M.
