30 dead birds and one dead raccoon were discovered in last month’s oil spill that covered an almost 2 mile area in Huntington Beach. Authorities followed a storm drain to Angus Petroleum where they believe the spill originated. If further tests prove the connection, Anugs will be charged with illegal discharge, failure to report the spill and will be held responsible for cleanup costs. WHOLE STORY
Jean Francois Gosselin, of Quebec, brought his cocaine shop to the wrong city. Newport Beach police found and arrested Gosselin in his mobile home with 92 kilos of cocaine. Officials say the cocaine had a street value of $19million. If Gosselin makes bail, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials will be waiting to take him for a deportation hearing. Gosselin will be arraigned on Feb 25 on charges of possession of a controlled substance to distribute with stricter sentencing guidelines for having over 80 kilos. WHOLE STORY
Christina Esquivel expected a FUN kind of terror as the lights dimmed on Disneyland’s Tower of Terror ride but, instead, she says an unwelcome hand grabbed her inappropriately. The photo taken at the end of the ride shows Esquivel with a shocked expression and a man reaching across the aisle toward her. Disneyland has passed the photo along to the Anaheim police for identification. WHOLE STORY
Camp Pendelton Marines will be firing 1.750 pounds of high explosives during business hours through Thursday in a mine-clearing exercise. With high clouds and a weak low pressure system cycling through, the sounds of the explosions may be magnified up to 50 miles away from the base, up and into Orange County. WHOLE STORY
John Eastman has resigned his position of Dean of the Chapman School of Law to pursue the nomination for California’s Attorney General. Eastman has been on the faculty of Chapman University since 1999 and is nationally known as a constitutional law expert. WHOLE STORY (more about Eastman below)

Before joining Chapman University in 1999, John Eastman served as a law clerk for Justice Clarence Thomas at the Supreme Court of the United States and with Judge J. Michael Luttig at the US Court of Appeals for the fourth circuit. Eastman also practiced law, specializing in major civil and constitutional litigation. Attorney General will not be Eastman’s first adventure into campaigning for elected office. He also ran for Congress in the 1990 election for California’s 34th district.
