Spectrum Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Irvine, is licensing a potential cancer drug in the fight against bone and blood cancer.  The drug, Belinostat is in trials and has fast-track review status with the Food and Drug Administration.  The company already makes drugs for bone cancer and non-Hodkin’s lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. Costa Mesa has an ordinance that prohibits people from standing on a sidewalk or in another public area soliciting business.  The ordinance was enacted to ban day laborers but also prevents school children from advertising fundraisers on the street or businesses from holding signs to attract customers.  Civil rights groups in Orange County have filed a lawsuit claiming that the ordinance is discriminatory and should be scrubbed.  WHOLE STORY

The “blue note bandit,” given the name for using blue paper to express his demands, has pulled off thirteen bank robberies since November, and local banks are upping the ante to find him.  Wells Fargo put up a $10,000 reward and US Bank has just chipped in another $10,000 for anyone who gives information that leads to an arrest.  WHOLE STORY

Costa Mesa residents and officials spent a lot of time trying to stop the sale of the Orange County Fairgrounds and, the sale still may not go through.  However, since the land was auctioned off to Craig Realty for $56.5 million, the city council is taking steps to pass an amendment assuring that no matter who owns the fairgrounds, the summer fair will still happen, along with continued use of the equestrian centers, agricultural and livestock activities, the weekly swap meet, concerts and emergency operational uses.  Furthermore, the amendment would prohibit the land from becoming a shopping center or several other specific uses.  WHOLE STORY

Concordia University Irvine has been offering a Second Degree Accelerated BSN program since 2008.  The program offers people with an undergraduate degree in any field to take a 12-month program to become a registered nurse.  The program has now been fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.  Hospitals and medical facilities across the country are looking for qualified registered nurses and this program offers those looking for a more marketable career a fast opportunity.  WHOLE STORY

Robin Preiss Glasser lived her childhood dream to become a professional dancer and now, lives her adult dream of being an illustrator.  Best known as the illustration creator of Fancy Nancy (the books are written by Jane O’Connor), Glasser has also illustrated with famous women like Sarah Duchess of York and Lynne Cheney and renowned author Judith Viorst.  Ms. Preiss Glasser makes her home in Orange County with her family, puppy and tiara collection.
